What stereotypes of your region do you blatantly defy?
1) Social conservativism: I tend to be more socially liberal in my views than the vast majority of people here (Orange County) although I consider myself a Conservative (fiscal only.)
2) Materialism: I only spend money on my needs and some of my "wants". I never spend big money on something to impress others (house, car, etc.) unless it's something that's needed for work.

That the Inland Empire is full of trailer parks and white trash. You'll here these comments a lot from our neighbors to the west of us, Orange County.
-Cheers.

Used to live in OC, and agree entirely on both counts.
W/r/t #2: to the extent the stereotype is actually representative, much of that is necessarily attributable to the in-migration from other states. We are simultaneously defined as a collection of transplants, but also inherently materialistic. Its mindless.

We don't, we dislike nearby towns, and I left my town once (well i went to a neighboring town) in nearly 18 months. and we don't let in new people to our town, you need to live here for like 4 years to be accepted. Its not even like we are a tiny town (~30,000 people) Which is typical New England.

That sounds like pure hell.
As for my current region, I defy pretty much all of them (politically, spiritually, intellectually), though I admit living here has made me friendlier to strangers.

That we are all brainless, toothless Hillbillies/Rednecks sippin' on moonshine.
Although in my particular case, it may be at least partially correct.

That every black man in Baltimore has been to jail, sells drugs, has a bunch of kids thatthey don't support, uneducated... etc
Also, being from MD, I try to dispel the myth that southern people are slow.
