I don't know. I would say.
1. UT-Austin
2. Rice
3. A&M
4. Baylor
5. Houston
6. Texas Tech
7. SMU
8. TCU
9. UNT
10. UT-Dallas

When it comes to UT and Rice, Rice is supposedly the better undergraduate school but UT is the better graduate school. The only ranking where I see Rice above UT is USNews, though. Every other ranking has Texas above Rice. Don't know who to believe. I read that Texas large undergraduate enrollment is somehow a negative in the USnews rankings for Texas.

They are both top-notch schools...anyone who says one is clearly above the other overall is either an alumni of one or doesn't know what they're talking about. If I had been offered a full ride to UT and Rice (HA!) it would be a tough choice. Depends on the program. I'd have been thrilled to go to either.

I'd second putting Baylor over U of H...and FWIW, North Texas is underrated.

Here's an interesting article I read awhile ago about college rankings: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2..._fact_gladwell

For Georgia, I'd say:

Emory
GA Tech
UGA
Georgia State
MCG
Spelman
Morehouse
SCAD
Georgia Southern
Kennesaw State (?)

If Cooler Pooper State is the second best school in the state, God help Ohio. God help it anyway. Ohio has quantity; not so much quality.

Realistically, it's more like this:

1) Oberlin College
2) Kenyon
3) Case Western Reserve University
4) Miami University of Ohio
5) College of Wooster
6) John Carroll University
7) Ohio State
8) Denison College
...

Michigan, lets do 5. Like Ohio, not an educational powerhouse of top-tier schools, but Michigan is one of the best universities in the world, so it does some lifting.

1.) Michigan
2.) Kalamazoo
3.) Michigan Tech
4.) Michigan State
5.) Albion

Very true. Texas needs more though. Hopefully Houston , Tech, and UT-Dallas continue to improve.

Very tough call...I'd almost split it between public and private...because some of the private schools have great reputations, but they are small and don't have the same clout that the big state schools have. Vanderbilt is definitely #1 overall.

Private schools:
1) Vanderbilt
2) University of the South (Sewanee)
3) Belmont
4) Rhodes
5) David Lipscomb? Carson Newman? Maryville College?

Public schools:
1) Tennessee-Knoxville
2) Memphis
3) Tennessee Tech
4) Middle Tennessee State
5) Tennessee-Chattanooga or East Tennessee State
