Rice and A&M tied??? not in your life.
Rice has the highest incoming SAT scores in the state and it has the lowest acceptance rate. Rice would either be tied with UT or ranked higher. A&M is below both DEFINITELY.

USNews:
Rice 17
UT 45
A&M 58

Forbes:
Rice 13
A&M 52
UT: 55

Times:
UT:29
Rice 47
A&M 164

Kiplingers Bang for buck:
Rice 1
UT 16
A&M 22

Despite being a much smaller school and lacking the major land grants, Rice has a huge endowment. Per capita it ranks 3rd in the country after Princeton and Yale, and just above Harvard.
Its endowment is 1.5M per student. UT has 100K per student

This thread was intended for individuals to express their personal opinions and experiences. The OP was very clear about that. My opinion was based on what I have seen of the Aggie and Longhorn alumni networks as well as academic and corporate reputation.

If you want to question the validity of my opinions, go right ahead. You can start by justifying the use of all these stats as proxies for both academics and reputation. Right now, I don't really care about any of them, but maybe you can convince me otherwise.

Ah, missed that.

I've had the dubious distinction of being a UNO senior for about 5 years now. We really don't have 10 schools worthy of being listed.

This is how I'd rank in Texas... ranked on academic standards AND how well known the schools are:

1. UT-Austin
2. Rice
3. Texas A&M
4. Texas Christian University (tie)
4. Southern Methodist University (tie)
5. Baylor
6. Texas Tech
7. North Texas
8. University of Houston
9. University of Texas-Dallas
10. Texas State

1. Harvard
2. MIT
3.Wellesley?
4. Williams?
5. Amherst
6. Mount Holyoke?
7. Boston University
8. Boston College

In Vermont,

1. Middlebury College
2. University of Vermont
3. Norwich University
4. St. Michael's College
