KYW definitely has the most distinct traffic jingle I've ever heard. Nothing says Philly like KYW traffic sounder with an update by John Brown, Sam Clover, Pat Winters, etc. Well nothing except actually being stuck in a traffic jam on the Schuykill, I-95, the Blue Route, etc.

Default DC area traffic

Absolutely incredible that traffic. It was enough to propel me clear across the country to settle in Northern CA. I have never looked back.

I commuted from Oakton, VA to Rockville, MD every day and I was so frazzled by the time the weekend came around, that I didn't want to see my car or any other car till Monday morning.

66 in Virginia still gives me nightmares. One of the worst interstates for traffic congestion in the whole country.

The worst traffic jam I ever encountered was going through Atlanta years ago. But that was because of a terrible accident. Other times it was ok. NYC is pretty bad, but I haven't driven there enough to be able to give a real opinion. I usually take mass transit there. But for a consistent expected nightmare, I would say the DC area is near the top, if not taking the top spot. Last time I was coming back from Philly, we left at the perfect time to hit DC rush hour. It was either stay in Philly real late to avoid it and get home to VA real late or just deal with it. I optd to deal with it since my friend and I had to go to work the next day. I told him to get ready for epic traffic. Got to Baltimore at 5. It was real congested but kept flowing. Got on the beltway about 40 mins later in DC; 2.5 hours and 15-20 miles later we were on the other side and home free.

The local news stations begin their morning traffic reports at 4 or 4:30 in the morning in DC and by 5:30 it starts looking like a parking lot all over the metro.

I live on Long Island and drive to visit family in Charlottesville, VA about 3 -4 times a year for the past 20 years. I would have said NYC traffic is the worst but DC has actually taken the title in the past 5 - 10 years or so.

If I dont time the trip correctly, it can take me 2 hours to get down to Fredricksburg from the DC limits, a trip of about 40 miles.

That's ridiculous. Was there an accident? If that's just normal traffic that would be insane.
