Ithaca would work and is a diverse SD. It also has a mayor and school superintendent that are both Black males. So, there are also professional Black males in the area.

I guess I should find out a bit more about Chicago in regards to an ideal place to reside for someone like me.
You could look into Washington D.C. One of the best job markets in the country.

YES, the DC area also has a higher cost of living like NY but there are places in Prince Georges County that are more affordable with low taxes. Plus, keep in mind that salaries tend to go hand in hand with cost of living so even though the DC is expensive, your salary would be higher to make up for it. There's also a huge community of Black professionals in PG County so you would have a lot of people you can relate to.

- In the Inner-Beltway(I-495) of PGC, shopping and transportation is very convenient but there is higher crime but since you're from Brooklyn, I assume you have good street-smarts anyways. Schools are not good but since you don't have children it shouldn't matter now.
- Outer-Beltway(I-495) of PGC is more affluent with even more black professionals but it doesn't seem like you're into the suburban lifestyle anyways, based on what you told us.

Something to look into.
