I would like New York City, but not in Times Square. Maybe I'd like to be on the rooftop of a tall building with a bunch of friends and/or celebs chilling out and there would be these outdoor heat generators so that it isn't so cold like they have on patios.

Did Vegas one year, it was ok. I'd probably do Times Square just to say I did it, but standing in those crowds outside for that long would get annoying. I'd definitely have to have a lot of drinks on hand.

In Chicago I normally just go to a bar with friends which is fun. This year I'm just going to a house party. It was never one of my favorite holidays. I feel like the more you plan ahead and go all out for New Years - the bigger bust it ends up being.

You couldn't pay me enough to stand in Times Square on NYE. My friends and I who grew up in NYC refused to be anywhere near it, left it to the tourists.

That said, I prefer to be home with friends and family these days, but if I had to pick a place it would be somewhere in NYC that is NOT Times Square. Plenty of restaurants and bars that throw good parties for a modest to not-so-modest cover charge. You just have to remember that NYE is amateur night. People who don't go out all year go out for one night and get wasted on three drinks and don't know how to act. I worked nightclubs and bars for close to 20 years doing NYE parties, worst night of the year. Now, picture a bunch of drunks roped into crowds in freezing weather peeing all over your shoes because once you are in, you can't get out. If you leave, they won't let you back in.

Sorry to come off so pessimistic, have fun wherever you choose to celebrate.
