Just want to thank everyone who's given input - you've given me a lot of to think about!!

Also want to clarify that we aren't "dissing" conservatives (to newmexico90). We just want to live in an environment we enjoy, as I'm sure conservatives also would.

You don't know much about California, do ya?
Southern California (outside of LA) and the Inland Areas are very conservative/libertarian and republican

but I am very comfortable as a liberal in Orange County

BTW: I feel sorry for red staters that rely on my taxes to support their states, then complain about socialism (and I do know that NM was a "blue state" last election)

)

Maybe the Capitol and White house got foreclosed on and the government moved back to Philadelphia. After 240 years I would hope Independance hall is paid for.

Come to Seattle or Portland. Seattle and Portland might be the two most liberal cities in America.

Asheville would suit you if you want to move south. Athens, not so much. There is some of that scene in Athens, but there is more of a drinking scene in Athens. Not really folks who get much done besides partying and drinking. They call UGA a drinking school with a football problem.
If I had to choose between Asheville and Chapel Hill in N.C., it wouldn't be a close decision. Asheville is in an incredible location, and having been to Madison as well, I can tell you you would love it.
