Right now I kind of live in 2 places. Minnesota because that's where I go to college, and Cleveland because that's where I've always lived, and where my family has lived for 4 generations.

Modesty. Minneapolis is a big city (in my opinion), but it continues to quietly and efficiently run here in the middle of the continent without much recognition, which is nice, because it's unaffected by the rest of the country (Generally speaking). I prefer isolation, and this is about the biggest Mecca of isolation out there. Not drawing attention yet accomplishing amazing things. Content.

#1 reason: Climate along with the terrain, I wanted to be somewhere I could be comfortable outside, enjoying the beauty of my surroundings nine or ten months of the year.
Followed by COL, city size and location, and crime rate.

The isolation is both a good thing and a bad thing IMO. I too like being somewhat "off the beaten path" but at the same time you get a lot of people with very provincial ways of thinking and behaving, such as believing that Minnesota has "everything" and making statements like "it has more coastline than California" -- yeah, if you want to sunbathe on the shore of a muddy mosquito infested lake. I'm not saying Minnesota doesn't have great things, but it's far less great than many locals tend to believe. I guess it's a trade off, because you can't have both isolation and cosmopolitanism.

Because this is where my family decided to live when I was a kid. The economy here is so bad all I have to a service level job and cannot make enough money to move.

Primary concern is a major urban city with jobs, particularly a city involving (tech/publishing) as that is my forte, not all big cities have this and rarely do small cities outside maybe somewhere like Austin.. I might reconsider when I'm 40-50 though? Hard to tell. NYC is better job market wise for things I am interested in, but also comes with the much higher COL.
