I asked my 84-year-old grandma is she knew what a hipster was--and she replied "Sure you mean the dope-smokers? They still listen to jazz and take LSD and all that other crap?"

These days it means you're a skinny white youth that wears skinny jeans, listens to nothing but Indie music, tries to look like a Bohemian but in reality has fairly decent money.

Keep in mind that the term Hipster isn't new. It also refers to an African-American subculture from the 40s.

Hipsters are currently like a conglomerate of kids that were previously called: Scene, Indie, Grafitti Kids, Break Dancers, Punk and Hardcore kids, Goths, Metalcore, etc. It's basically any sub genre that exist now.

Not only that but the archetype has been with us since Diogenes in ancient Greece (if not further, it is possible that hipsters have always been with us).
