I dont think there are regional differences within US, of sense of humor...depends on the social circle... I doubt people in Idaho will elicit different responses to "something funny" than would people in the Carolinas...it'll depend on the individual

However, I think there are racial differences- Hispanic-Americans, African-Americans tend to have a different sense of humor.

Within other cultures with the same language though...indeed there's a British sense of humor, Australian sense of humor, which is indeed different from the overall US sense of humor

I've seen the words "witty" and "dry" used here as opposite types of humor. Can anyone elaborate? Isn't dry suppose to mean "dry wit" anyway?

New York and Chicago both have well-developed comedy scenes. Other than that I don't know that I can say specifically.

I guess us New Englanders are very sarcastic so I've noticed, and tend to be dry too.

One of my profs in Canada said she loved New England sense of humor, I wasn't aware we had a specific kind of humor to us.

Seattle is sarcastic and dry, but usually deriding politicians and/or political process or the school board. There is some snark, but people in the workplace are very serious. People take things a little too seriously here.

In Cleveland, it was significantly more sarcastic and silly. But in Nashville it is significantly more dry humor and people don't understand sarcasm DOWN here.😂

No. It's not that we don't understand it. We just think it's kind of mean. So when you say something sarcastic, that blank look you get isn't incomprehension, but rather something along the lines of "What do I say in reply to this a-hole?"

Sarcasm isn't all that sophisticated, given how your average six-year-old is a master of it.

Well, humor in general isn't sophisticated and it's not mean. I guess you're sensitive.

Texas humor - dry and low key but distinct. Think "Lonesome Dove." Not loud and not particularly sarcastic. Delivered with a very straight face.

Actually, well, you're wrong on both counts. Any idiot can be sarcastic. Good humor tends to be deeper, pulling out the ironies of life. I mean, all you have to do is read writers such as Twain or Benchley or a zillion others to know that.
