Yup. I don't think orange suits NYC either.
I also don't think the Jets' green is fitting

Miami - Aqua/Turquoise/Teal and Orange (very bright, pastel-looking colors in general)

Knicks, Mets, Islanders and Liberty all have orange in their logo and uniform.
New York (New Amsterdam) was build by the Dutch in the 1600's.
Orange is THE color of the Netherlands.

DC: Red, white & blue. Because of both the American flag and the colors of the Nats, Caps and Wizards. The Redskins are certainly the most popular sports team, but I agree that the colors don't really seem to match the city.

Pittsburgh: Black and yellow. Steelers, plus it somehow seems "industrial" and matches their flag.

Miami: pastels: from the sunshine, beach wear, old eps of Miami Vice, and the Dolphins.

I'm sure there are others, but those are the first that popped into my head.

I've always seen Minneapolis as a dark orange. Purple and gold definitely don't match the city, though I can understand the Wild's colors being similar to St. Paul. Red and Green fit.m
