Yeah sadly the Cowboys are the most popular team overall in Texas. I think its based more on Texas' stereotype though than anything is the reason people associate the two together.
Dallas hasn't had a winning team in almost 15 years.
I actually believe the Eagles would have more fans in PA however on a national level there may be more Steelers. In PA though I would say PSU Football (Actually on the below link shown to have the largest College Football fan base in the Country) would have the largest and most cohesive fan base for the whole state of PA, Philly, Pittsburgh and all places in between.

Foot in Mouth. So am I to assume that Houston has NEVER had a winning team in their glorious 8 year existence? Also, it's not based on some stupid stereotype. It's based on Dallas being a winning organization for the majority of it's 50 year existence and they are a popular brand in the state of Texas. No team has won more championships in Texas than the Dallas Cowboys. No team has been as successful besides the Texas Longhorns as the Dallas Cowboys. Now quit obsessing.
I wouldn't say the University of Michigan Wolverines football for Michigan. There are a huge number of people in the state that HATE UofM, far more than follow them. It would probably be either the Tigers or the Redwings. You see a lot of Old English "D's" and flying wheels on cars all over the state.
Damn Skippy it isn't the Lions. Oh man, don't even get me started on those clowns.
