So I've noticed a lot of people on this site focus mainly on the desirable urban areas of their city, of course these areas should get most of the attention, however whenever I go to a new city I'm always interested in seeing the bad/ghetto part of the city, I'm always amazed because eventhough they're undesriable areas to live in these areas usually have good bones, old housing stock and the grime and graffiti just add to the urban feeling imo, so anyways I would like to know where in your city this is and if gentrification is happening, photos would be great.

Some parts of Hempstead (the village, not the town)on Long Island, NY are in very poor condition. Here is one of the more blighted blocks in the area;
hempstead, ny - Google Maps

Here is a nice area of Hempstead village less than half a mile away;

There are some other areas on long island considered bad but they're aren't anywhere near being true ghettoes, most actually have low-crime by national standards and middle class median household incomes. A lot of them you couldn't even tell apart from the "better areas". Most are just suburban areas that tend to not be as well-maintained as other neighborhoods. Ethnicity is a common reason why some neighborhoods are undeservingly placed into the "ghetto" category.
