That's not true, Long Island has a population of 7,568,304.

If Los Angeles County were a state, it would be the 8th most populous and the 7th richest.

If that is a criterion of "importance", then you need to also consider the 16-mile Calumet River, which flows north through Chicago, a much more important major metro than Portland.

Long Island is 1401 SQ Miles with a population over 7 Million but you can barely fit Dallas, Houston and San Antonio onto long island (1398 SQ Miles) and its population would be 4,670,369

That is a density that boggles my miind. I wonder how many people realize that you are including a big chunk of NYC (Brooklyn and Queens) when you mention statistics for the whole of Long Island.

Wow, compared to of 19,378,102, that's over 39% of the population of the entire state! Impressive, considering that upstate L.I. is sometimes cut off of outline state maps, like the U.P. often is for MI.

The southernmost portion of San Diego is completely isolated from the rest of the city, separated by National City and Chula Vista.

^Like I've said before, I DO research my posts.

Rhode Island has a higher population than Alaska-- but RI would fit inside AK 546 times!
In fact, RI would fit inside Juneau, Alaska almost three times. And RI has 33 times the population of Juneau.
