Don't think anyone mentioned this but Alaska is the Eastern and Western most state in the US
For those who didn't get that, the western Aleutian Islands are west of the 180th Meridian, which makes their coordinates 179 degrees EAST Longitude.

I think each borough has a sign, which would be equivalent to a county-line sign.
If you cross the border from China to Afghanistan, you have to set your watch back 3.5 hours. If you cross from China to Vladivostok, Russia, you have to set it ahead 3 hours. Because China is all in the same time zone.

Similarly when it comes population density, consider the following: imagine the 6 New England states, plus New York State, and 3/4 of Pennsylvania join to form a single state. Everyone, except for the residents of the Hartford CT metropolitan statistical area are told to evacuate this new state. The next morning, those remaining in Hartford disperse throughout the newly formed state. This new state would equal in terms of area and population: MONTANA.
Rhode Island is the Island which Newport RI (co-capital until 1901) is on, while the Mainland part of the state is Providence Plantation hence the Name The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation which is Shortened to Rhode Island which only refers to the Island not the entire state.
In the six New England states, 100% of the land area is incorporated as a city or town. Even the most rural areas are within city or town boundaries. There's no such thing as "living in the county," as with the rest of the country. I think there is a small exception in Maine, however.
Growing up in NJ, I didn't even know the concept of unincorporated areas existed until a few years ago. In NJ, "unincorporated areas" are just areas that have their own community/mailing address but are still part of some town or another.
