US and Canadian postal abbreviations do not conflict, which is why Nebraska is NE, not NB.
Which will come in handy once the U.S. joins Canada as its 51 newest provinces.
Another slight oddity is the fact that the U.S. and Canada (along with a bunch of Caribbean islands, not all of which are independent countries) share the same international dialing code: 1. The only other two large countries that do so are Russia and Kazahstan (7). This is a relic of the USSR, but every other former member state except those two now has its own dialing code.
The two states that are closest together in size are Nebraska and South Dakota, Nebraska being 0.3% larger. If Nebraska were to cede its smallest county, Sarpy, to neighboring Iowa, the areas of Nebraska and South Dakota would be within one square mile of being equal.
Of Canada's ten provinces, the three in the prairies (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) are within 3% of being the same size.
There are only about 20 cities in the USA (>10K) whose names begin and end with the same letter as their state. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the largest, followed by Chula Vista, California. A few others you might be familiar with are Muskegon, Michigan , Missoula, Montana, and Vienna, Virginia. Most of the rest are pretty insignificant and not very well known. I grew up in one of them, and that fact had never even occurred to me until I started making a list of them and realized that it was on the list.
Clark County, Nevada, has nearly a million people who do NOT live in an incorporated city or town. Of the 1,969,000 people in the county, 1,060,000 live in an incorporated city or town, and 909,000 live in Census Designated Places or other rural unorganized areas of the county. Now, in 2013, it is possible that that number has reached a million.
The Las Vegas Strip, the airport and UNLV are located in Paradise, Nevada, a CDP administered by the Clark County Board of Commissioners. As such, they are outside the city limits of Las Vegas. Most people fly to McCarran Airport, take the shuttle to the Strip, then back to the airport, without ever entering the city of Las vegas. The City of Las Vegas doesn't start until you go all the way up across Sahara Avenue to the Stratosphere.

Nashua, New Hampshire is New Hampshire's second largest city.
Also Providence is the only largest city of a state that you can draw a straight line through and it enters from the same state as it leaves (Massachusetts)

Well, if you draw a straight line through Honolulu, going north and south all the way around the world, it goes through Alaska both ways.
Also, I think you can draw a straight line through Philadelphia that goes through New Jersey in both directions. And also a straight line between two Indiana points that goes through Louisville. And Illinois through St. Louis. And Iowa through Omaha. And New Jersey through New York City. And Arkansas through Memphis.

Opps, meant Capital.
Honolulu doesn't count because it cuts through other landmasses, and Hawaii's territory only extends like 7 miles offshore. Nor does New York City, as Jersey is only on one side of the river.
Hartford is on a straight line from Montauk Point to Saratoga Springs, New York. That's the capital and the largest city.
Goes through Massachusetts when it leaves Connecticut, then enters New York From Massachusetts.
