NYC 41.236*N
Yup.
Rome is located within the 41st N latitude but not NYC. NYC is located entirely in the 40th N latitude.

Good catch!

Rome is at 41' 54" North .....same as Chicago....not NYC.

Even here in Canada we have land farther south than Rome, Italy.

I had a chuckle when visiting Point Pelee National Park in southern Ontario
when I saw a sign indicating being at the same latitude as Rome.
Now if we could only have Rome's climate, lol.

Toronto, Ontario Canada is at pretty much the same latitude as Nice, France,
which is in the French Riviera, extremely mild for it's latitude,
Toronto is clearly not mild for it's latitude.
Europe is very lucky indeed....imagine Chicago and Toronto with palm trees
along their respective lakefronts.

Pacific Ocean cities at high latitude (Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, or SE Alaska), are warmer than most in eastern North America at the same latitudes due to the currents of the Pacific Ocean. Not an oddity of geography as such, but more a result of oceanic forces.

Yeah but the Languedocian region also has the Mediterranean sea and is also in the Atlanto Mediterranean region, which means that you have a huge sea moderating the climate and an ocean.

Alls we got are lakes

The state of Indiana's northern borders coincide with latitudes of Chicago East-West streets.

The northernmost border is at the same latitude of 75th street in Chicago. The most northwestern point of land in Indiana is at the same latitude as 102nd street, and the state of Indiana's northernmost border with Chicago is exactly at 103rd street. The oddity here is these coinciding latitudes more than likely are the result of chance than actual planning.

Similarly the southeasternmost point of Indiana is at the same latitude as 8th street in Cincinnati. This is near the north "bend" of the Ohio river (of which a suburb of Cincinnati is named after).

And in the same vain, Indiana's southwesternmost city of Evansville is due south of Chicago.

Not only this, but Cumberland Gap, VA is closer to Montgomery, AL than it is to its own state capital of Richmond. It is also closer to St. Louis than it is to Alexandria.
