That's what I was thinking too. Over the Tappan Zee - perhaps parts of NJ as well (Alpine area).

Yes, the Palisades in that part of NY and NJ remind me of the area mentioned by the OP.

Thanks to kanhawk for the Canada insight. I think Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada is the closest thing to what I'm looking for.
This picture from the National Geographic website just does it:

And Maine is probably the closest thing within the US, though. Thanks to everyone!

In Marin there are cows like that and elk instead of sheep.

Hmm... yeah there is nothing like that on the East Coast, if you want to be in Marin, West Sonoma, West Mendocino, Santa Cruz, Monterey ...you need to go back to California or go to Italy/Greece or something.

The pictures everybody is posting don't really do it justice.

Try Essec County, MA, or just north of Portland Maind (Falmouth) there are also year-round ferrys to many islands in casco Bay. If you want somewhere warmer try Newport RI.

You're not going to find any part of California on the East Coast.

Sad but True. Point Loma is also nice down in San Diego County, CA. Love that State despite all it's drawbacks geograpically and cultural it is like none other.
