I would guess the North East would be the most prosperous. It would end up being like the UK or Hawaii because it would be pretty dependent on its neighbors for food. Just one thing, can we please put Maryland in the North East if the nation was split? Lol most of Maryland doesn't have anything in common with the South anymore. Geographiclly we have the shape of a north east state, we have the highest avg income (not common with the south), the best education system (also not very common with the south), and more.

Wall Strret will still be in the North East, so that's where the big money will be.

True. But the West has the technology sector where a lot of money is too.

the south would have less bureaucracy slowing everything down, oil would become an enormous industry, there would be huge industrial manufacturing zones, and the busiest ports in the country with easily the most exports. i imagine we'd have a huge military industrial complex as well.

so anything you consider good, means it automatically goes to the northeast? okay. so now that virginia is prosperous, it's all of a sudden not "southern" anymore according to many c-d'ers. and as north carolina begins to prosper, it will all of a sudden not be "southern" anymore. i see how it works.

the south isn't poor because it's red. it's poor because 1) the extremely high african american population 2) it was primarily an agricultural region (farmers). that's why it's poor. since many rich people are fiscally conservative, the whole idea that "wealth is wealthy because it's blue" is bullcrap. blue states were formerly industrial states that rich conservatives developed and made a lot of money in. the manufacturing industry they once ran collapsed in the presence of unions and rich conservatives are now limited to law firms, banks, and wall street, which the jobs they created are then filled up by college liberals (since a company with 1 or 2 republican bosses is diluted by its 300 democrat paper pushers who can often be found, with their ironic humor and all, on internet forums like city-data). now they then stagnate those states and send them into spiraling debt because they want everybody to pay more money to fit their little ideal utopian "collective" society.
