Seattle is a very "live and let live" city. However, some suburbs are not. I once drove through Mill Creek, and one guy signaled to me and asked why I was driving through town. This was in the 80's, and I was a 20-something, hopefully things have changed since.

Yeah, West Coast people in general tend to mind their own business, outside gated communities and gang territory.

Colorado's cool like that, too.

A lot of the suburban Northeast is pretty lame. I mean, suburbia anywhere just sucks generally, but there are some really Debbie Downers up here.

For many people, "minding your own business" and being cold, rude and aloof tends to tread a very fine line. For me, being friendly and nosy tends to track a fine line. I have found the latter especially true in many southern locations and even parts of the Midwest.

Btw, I absolutely loathe people asking can they "help" you with something in a passive-aggressive manner.

so true! i was parked in this bad neighborhood in San Fran, and this person actually put their face up to the back window and looked inside while I was still in the car! i guess they thought maybe i was hiding the cops in the back ready to come raid them. gated communities are just as bad but in a different way. if you leave your garbage cans out an extra day, or you park your car on the street they'll call and complain.

NYC by far but almost to a fault. If something bad happens to you a lot of people will not rush to help you, they will mind their business. Not saying no one will help you because that would be false but compared to other places in the U.S people mind their business...

Anywhere in NYC, L.A. and San Francisco and most likely in any very large city in the USA.
