Here's a detailed report on the Asian population of the United States, per the 2010 Census. And here's the briefing for some basic information.

Stuff that I found interesting

Of all cities with 100,000+ population, nine of the 10 with the largest Asian proportions were in California. Two such cities have a majority-Asian population: Honolulu, HI (68%); Daly City, CA (58%) and Fremont, CA (55%).

Six states have populations that are at least 8% Asian: Hawaii (57%), California (15%), New Jersey (9%), Washington (9%), Nevada (9%) and New York (8%).

Chinese are the largest Asian ethnicity in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Boston and Seattle. Indians are the largest in Chicago, Washington DC, Dallas/Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Detroit.

Japanese are the largest Asian ancestry in Honolulu; Vietnamese are the largest in Houston, and Hmong are the largest in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Thanks...I'd say the most significant stat for me would be Indians becoming the largest Asian minority in so many large cities these days. Quite a leap compared to 20 years ago.

Cool. I expected Alaska's Asian population to be larger.

I realize that out of the total population, "Asians" still only constitute a small percentage of people. However, I think it's getting around time to separate Indians (or more generally South Asians) from the "Asian" category on the census.

I got the numbers for South Asians (including Asian Indians, Bangladeshi, Bhutanese, Nepalese, Pakistani, and Sri Lankans) on the census

I wonder what the Middle Eastern numbers would look like, since they are counted as Asians on the census.

It's clear from these numbers that the Northeast absolutely dominates South Asians.

Maybe they should create one category for Middle Easterners & South Asians. Middle Easterners & South Asians have the same relationship as East Asians & Southeast Asians. They're racially similar, but not completely (if you believe in racial categories) but they're culturally different. In fact, most Southeast Asian cultures have more in common with South Asian culture than they do with East Asian culture.

Yeah, it was a typo. I meant White.

Does anyone have numbers on how many Middle Eastern people there are in the United States as of 2010?
