One of my two favorite places in the world (the other is the Big Island of HI.. pics of that later): Big Sur.. luckily I live close by, when i'm in the USA anyway!

As beautiful as those pictures of Big Sur are, they don't capture the place. In fact, I've never seen any photo that actually does.

Overall, I think the most beautiful place I've been is the SF Bay Area. Such a great combination of natural beauty and urban beauty. When I lived there, I used to hang out at Lands End all the time, and just couldn't get over how amazing it was.

Montana is stunning too. Really hard to describe, but as someone who grew up practically on the beach on the East Coast, the Northern Rockies are just fantastic.

That being said, the Appalachians are incredible too. Especially the Blue Ridge in Virginia.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina are very beautiful, and the area feels so detached from everything sometimes. Kinda cool, imo.

Aside from natural scenery, I think New York and Chicago are both beautiful cities. Seeing them from up high all lit up at night is definitely a sight to see.

Too bad they're stuck with that dog of a state, Oregon, in between them.

Most awesomely beautiful thing I've ever seen was taking off from the Portland airport at sunrise, direct into the Columbia River Gorge. The combination of the beauty of the Gorge, with the light of the sunrise ... It was decades ago, but I'll never forget it.

Crater Lake
The Northern Oregon Coast
The Redwoods in Northern California
Glacier Bay, Alaska
just about any beach in Hawaii
The Blue Grotto, Capri, Italy
The Cinqueterre, in Italy
Venice's Grand Canal

The Columbia River Gorge is just spectacular, and over-looked.

Key West can have amazing sunsets.

Even where I live in Deerfield Beach Florida, when I am not at school. Late afternoons on crystal clear days, when most people have left the beach can look amazing. Sun rises over the ocean are awesome too.

All these beautiful pictures and descriptions remind me of when we had the opportunity once to visit Lady Bird Johnson Grove in Redwoods NP on a nice Sept day with the ocean fog lightly rolling in. We were literally the only ones in that part of the park and the feeling was very primordial walking beneath these massive trees with shafts of sunlight all around and prefectly quiet but for our footsteps. I was so happy I could've just puked, but didn't as that would have wrecked the mood.
