Dirty Low Down by Bob Skaggs. Your the highest of the high by Maxwell. So In Love by Jill Scott. I think about New York City cruising through Manhattan.

Would the OP like to identify the city that those two songs give him a feel for?

===========

While not so much about a city, this song definitely gives me a feel for Maryland.

Chicago. Or NYC, never really been in NYC, just passed by it when I was a kid. But really makes me wanna go there.

I'd say L.A. if I'm driving through the urban areas, or passing downtown. Or my neighborhood.

Funny thing is, I was never really into the whole west coast hip hop vibe. Use to be the only thing on my headphones, then when I came to Chicago, I really found a love for hip hop from the east coast. The beats are simply the best I've heard anywhere. Especially the 90's.

There is one song for L.A. that does a good NY style beat:

What city exactly are you talking about?

These songs give me some impression of New York City, even though they have nothing to do with cities or with NYC.

War - Lowrider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ro4yhp9L6Ok

Surf Rider (and Surf Rock in general is very L.A.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXi3mCfv15k

Ventura Highway (typical of the mega-selling 70's SoCal Sound): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I0d29s6GCc

I gather, then, that the title of the thread means "any inner city, as opposed to a non-urban environment".
