EXACTLY. That's why a capital that is NOT the major city would be stifling in most cases.

seriously... Albany isn't even in the middle of the state... It is one of the oldest cities in the country and has much more going on there due to its location in the northeast. It amazes me how little people know about our state capitals.

You do realize it's an actual city right? Not just the nation's capital. When was the last time you visited DC? If it was 1985 then yes, there wasn't much going on outside of the political world except for crime. Now people consider it one of the most cosmopolitan and urban cities in the country. It has one of the best public transit systems in the nation, some amazing night life, world class museums, top notch universities and both charming and hip neighborhoods. I have a non-government job(well non-political since I guess the fire department is local government) and enjoy the city. I no longer live there because of the prices and the fact that I prefer to be out of the city but it's still not hard to see why it's loved by so many.
