1(the worst): Alaska (while alaska has many different climates, it's fair to say it's the worst overall: too little sun, too much cold)
2/3: tie between the great plains and the great lakes (the midwest). the great plains get frigid and have dramatic temperature swings but they are drier and sunnier. The great lakes, while not as cold, are still goddamn cold and have a lot less sun.
4: pacific northwest (coastal): too little sun in the winter with damp conditions. The summers are too cool, especially at night. I need a nice warm summer to recharge my batteries.
5:northeast: While really cold, there is plenty of sun and nice summers to help offset this.
6: upper south: winters are cold to moderate but most importantly short. Every other season is beautiful.
7: lower south: winters are very short and moderate. Summers are hot and long though.
8: desert southwest: Very hot but dry summers. nonexistant winters (pleasant). Plenty of sunshine.
9: southern florida: warm year around, no temperature extremes whether hot or cold (though humid). Hurricanes and storms help prevent this from being one of the best climates.
10:coastal california: cool to pleasant year around. Plenty of sunshine. My only complaint is that I wish it was consistently 5-10s warmer.
11(the best): Hawaii: A perfect tropical climate without the risk of hurricanes and storms of southern florida.
Not counting Alaska, the Great Lakes. The Northeast has the exact same temperatures and humidity, but they have an ocean to escape to during the summer, and they aren't as cloudy during the winter.
The Great Plains are the worst. Texas's summers are like the North's winters. At least the Great Lakes area has the Great Lakes which makes it awesome in the summertime. The Great plains has nothing except for some man made lakes.
Since I'm a heat (and humidity) hater I chose the South, but really most of those regions are generally far too warm for me in the summer, it's just that summer in the South is so long. Actually, even much of the PNW is too warm for me in summer.
I am biased, but I'm born and raised in the American South so heat and humidity just feel like home to me. So I voted for the Midwest, because they just catch hell all year long - very hot, humid summers and ridiculously cold winters, tornadoes, floods, you name it.
I live in East Texas which - in case you don't know - is actually green, covered with trees, and hilly. Summers are very hot, but winters are NICE. Cold enough to break out the cute winter clothes and boots, but very little ice and only enough snow for everyone to stay home from work or school for one day and take a lot of pictures before the snow melts by 2 pm.
We have four seasons here: Early Summer, Summer, Late Summer, and Christmas.
Me too. When I was little I whined a lot about the heat. I guess I couldn't stand it! Well, I had a teacher who used to tell me when I complained of the heat, "Cold is better. When it's cold, you can keep putting on coats, but when it's hot, what do you do? I'd respond, "Get naked and have the police take you to jail?" She'd laugh her butt off.
I reeeeally hate heat!
