Cities Who Honk (how much, live in, moving)

I lived in Minnesota for a while, and hardly ever heard honks. Even when someone is stopped at a light and doesn't go when the light changes to green, the cars behind it will often just sit there doing nothing, rather than honk. Now I live in Cleveland, and people honk much more. It's something I have to get used to, and to be honest, it's not that pleasant. But I realize that on the East Coast they honk even more. Where in the country do they lay on the horn, and where are they relatively silent? How much do they honk where you live, or in places that you've visited?

The worst I've experienced is NYC (mostly cab drivers)...they start honking when the light turns green or pretty much whenever they feel like it.

Easily New York City, I don't think any other city honks nearly as much. I hear it from non-cabbies often, too.

When your city has to post signs that say "DON'T HONK" at every intersection, I think that's a pretty good indicator.

And yes, the drivers are noticeably more passive in the Midwest.

The honking is something I notice immediately the first time I went to Chicago. The very second the red light turns green, someone had better be moving or the honking begins.

People in Phoenix don't honk because they know that there's about a 40 percent chance that they'll get shot.

Keep in mind for Miami, that many of them come from the New York area. Same for Atlanta and Charlotte--the honking there can probably be attributed to the uptick in New Yorkers.
