Any accents that are extreme. I feel my accent is neutral, granted I did grow up in South Carolina so I may have a little twang to it, but it's definitely not thick and people from the state even ask me if I'm from here....But ANY accent that is THICK. Be it southern, midwestern, or northern....The only one I really love is the one's in Louisiana
I feel like that might be a Philadelphia thing because I do that a bit and my grandmother definitely did that (and she's never lived anywhere but Philly). I actually have things I wrote when I was in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade and "warsh" is one of my misspellings (along with "R" for "Our.")
"Warsh" is also not too uncommon to hear in Pittsburgh so maybe it's more of a Pennsylvania/Mid Atlantic thing.
so why do accents exist anyways? laziness? lack of education? to become more socially acceptable? is it regional proximity or shared border with another conutry that speaks a different language? actually i dont like any accents. whats wrong with phonetically correct proper english, like how any nationaly televised newscast or sports commenter would speak? im sure there are many out there that would agree they stopped listening the moment they had to stop n figure out what the hell someones trying to say to them. charm fades out inevitably.

A lot of accents developed because different groups of people were geographically and culturally isolated from each other for a long period of time. With many of the cultures that came to the United States not being English-speaking cultures, when members of those cultures learned English they still retained traces of their native languages. Also, many different cultures have mixed together, in different ways, throughout different parts of the U.S.
