It will one day be extinct. I was raised close to the city limits and show virtually zero traces of it. My friend's dad has a strong St. Louis accent, but he himself has no accent.
I don't know how common the accent is anymore but you can sure tell when someone has the strong accent. It doesn't annoy me too much in small doses but I don't think I could take hearing it all day! lol

I met a guy from St. Louis who is in his early 20's and he has a little bit of the accent, but it isn't too bad.

I would say Baltimore but I'm used to it now.

I just want to know where the extra emphasis on "u"/"oo" sounds originated from, it's just odd (& funny) to me.

Most rappers talk normally when they aren't on camera so dont go by him. Listen to TIP for a real ATL accent.

Holy crap, TIP's accent is so annoying when he's not rapping. It's like that typical southern sloury noise at the speed of a tortoise.

I grew up in Chicago and I could hear it even when I lived there. There seemed to be a difference even between North siders and South siders. Now that I have lived in the PNW for 30 years I can really hear the accent sometimes even in myself although friends tell me it's diminished. Not that I have tried.

I thought people had an accent when I moved out here. They assured me they didn't. I still think they do. Doesn't bother me though. I don't think any accent really bothers me. I like to listen and try to figure out where people come from.
