hehehe yeah I gotta admit it can get annoying at times. Quarter=Quawwwrter, Forty=Farty, Forest Park=Farest Park. The good news for you is that the St. Louis accent is virtually non-existent among the younger generations...the Northern Cities shift has virtually killed it beyond the Baby Boomers. It will one day be extinct. I was raised close to the city limits and show virtually zero traces of it. My friend's dad has a strong St. Louis accent, but he himself has no accent.
I don't know how common the accent is anymore but you can sure tell when someone has the strong accent. It doesn't annoy me too much in small doses but I don't think I could take hearing it all day! lol
I met a guy from St. Louis who is in his early 20's and he has a little bit of the accent, but it isn't too bad.
For some reason, the accents spoken in the "Northern Cities Vowel Shift" cities annoy me which include Cleveland, Chicago, Rochester, Buffalo, etc. Some people in that region think they have no accent but it is very distinct.
I grew up in Chicago and I could hear it even when I lived there. There seemed to be a difference even between North siders and South siders. Now that I have lived in the PNW for 30 years I can really hear the accent sometimes even in myself although friends tell me it's diminished. Not that I have tried.
I thought people had an accent when I moved out here. They assured me they didn't. I still think they do. Doesn't bother me though. I don't think any accent really bothers me. I like to listen and try to figure out where people come from.
That song is just.......DREADFUL. I don't see how anyone over 13 could be into it!
