Where should we move?
Hello City-Data! Was looking through the forums and just wandering, thought it'd be a great place to ask for help!
My family is looking to move from NYC to another state. We are Muslim and Pakistani. So far I've thought of moving to Texas but don't know about the pakistani/desi community there.
I'm mainly looking for states with a desi community and facilities such as Halal meat and and close Super markets.
What would you guys suggest?

This is a little tricky, since I don't know too much about the pakistan community in the States. I did find a list of best Muslim communities in American and Houston was on the list for number of mosques & Islamic centers.
Here's a link
Top Ten Muslim Communities
What other cities have you considered? I know Dearborn in Michigan is supposed to have a large Islamic community, but I'm not sure how many are Pakistani. I'm sure California would have many options as well, or perhaps Chicago.
Good Luck!

I don't mean to be rude. But why don't you try and goto a typical American Community. I mean if you are going to america then I assume that you are going to want to experience the American "dream". So if thats what you want to do why don't you goto a typical area. I mean i'm from the UK and if I was moving to the US I wouldn't even bother looking for british areas I would just move wherever.
Sorry thats harsh but really thats the way I would do it. I Would think that most American Supermarkets would have the Halal meat considering America is a Multicultural country.

lol, I'm moving from NYC to LA. I've been living in NY and have experienced the American Dream for more than 10 years. The living is too costy here compared to L.A.
What has drawn me to L.A. and TX: I have relatives in both states and I've heard TX has a great Pakistani community. As for L.A., it seems to be the best option for a convenient city.

TX is growing, nice people, you have relatives there, and no state income tax!
As I'm sure you're aware, CA is in big big trouble financially.
