They're both just about neck and neck in my opinion. I never even thought about North Carolina until recently, like in the last two years. I met some good people from there. And I think I like mountains a lot better than beaches. The weather near beaches often means trouble, and high prices. Certainly not worth it for a family on a budget. Insurances alone add up to a house payment or close to. The ocean isn't that great to swim in.
If I could have an average family home in either I would take one in the North Carolina mountains with a basement. You keep keep tropical plants relatively well if you look after them too. Plus you would have fall and winter, with snow falling in the winter. Thing is I don't want to be lonely. I would like to be in a place where everyone mixes together and stays upbeat. But my family is in Florida, so I will have to learn to love it for its good things. And it has natural springs that are clear blue. Kids are awed by that stuff and the dinosaur trees.
I picked Florida. Most of my life I would have leaned towards eastern Tennessee over North Carolina anyway. So I will stick with those two since I don't see a reason to change it. Just a familiarity thing for me. Both states are probably top notch

I'm surprised we don't have much of a debate. Slow day on General U.S forum?

I'd pick either; depending on the communities available to live in and job prospects.
Florida has better winters while N.C. probably has better summers.
Florida has the more popular beaches, N.C. has more natural-looking beaches
In both places the ocean warms pleasanlty to swim in; in Florida the ocean stays warm just a little longer.
IMHO central NC in summer is usually sunny, very warm and kind of dry;
not too hot and too humid to be active, like many posters make it out to be.

Florida all day! Just like every state they both have their positives and negatives, but I have lived in both states and I would go with Florida any day! Florida is my home though, I was born and raised in Florida and I have lived all over Florida, Jacksonville (where I was born and raised), Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Gainesville, Ft. Myers, Orlando, Orange Park, Daytona, etc, so I guess I'm kind of bias. I do really like NC. I have to say, I like the weather way better, most of the time. And it is beautiful there, but there just a lot more that I like about Florida. I just think Florida, especially south Florida, has a lot more culture and diversity. I have only lived in Greensboro NC and Charlotte, but I only lived in Charlotte for a few months though, so I don't know. Just my opinion, I like Florida better!
If I had to pick a state besides Florida to live in, it would be NC hands down!

NC, the future Florida with inflated Real Estate prices
Personally I say move to TN or SC. basically the same except you won't deal with the boom and crash.

I would rather not live in either, but if you forced me to choose, I'd pick North Carolina, hands down. That's a pretty easy question.

Definitely NC as well.
Not many people realize this; but, much of NC is only about 10 degrees cooler in the winter vs. the Tallahassee-Jacksonville latitude of Fla. It has been known to hit near 5F in those towns.
Jacksonville
