If Texas is considered West, anybody can get a job in Texas. Not necessarily in whatever happens to be your field, though. And not necessarily for high pay. But wherever you land, you can support yourself.

How about narrowing the list down to places you have a genuine interest in living?

For jobs, Reno and Vegas don't have a great economy at this time. Housing is affordable so you could probably make it in both these cities. Just may take more effort/time finding adequate employment.

They're west of the Mississippi.

Many people consider everything west of that to be "out west".
