I have an offer in Salt Lake City, my boyfriend an offer in Atlanta. His offer pays a lot more but we aren't as keen to live in Atlanta. Outdoors and the skiing are a big draw yet SLC doesn't seem to have a lot of action.

But I have an interview coming up next week in Nashville, and soon in Atlanta. Why did I apply to so many jobs? However I think we will need to decide between SLC and Atlanta. What to do!?

They are such dramatically different cities. In fact, SLC is basically just an outdoorsy city. There is not much else to do there. In Atlanta, you won't really have skiing here. Certainly not in the fashion that SLC has (some of the best skiing in the USA) but it has all the big city amenities SLC lacks. So to clarify: why aren't you keen on moving to Atlanta?

Well we see our selves more out west and like the outdoors. We are looking for a hybrid city. SLC isn't the most cosmopolitan but I think Park City has some cool things going on. Atlanta just seems crowded, lots of traffic, and you are kinda stuck. If I am going to live landlocked I would rather be in a place like SLC with the mountains and with access to some of the best national parks in the country. I know Atlanta has mountains and the ocean a few hours away but it's not the same. But we need to decide what's more important mountains or a higher paying job! We are coming from Cape Town so while we need to be practical, quality of life is very important to us.

I think Portland or Boulder are good examples of hybrid cities.

I think Denver/Seattle are a better example. Neither Portland or Boulder have diverse economies though Boulder is part of Denver's MSA.

I think you will like Atlanta, the Appalachian mountains are scenic in their own way. Plenty of forests, greenery, waterfalls and inland lakes. The ocean is 3 hours away which you might as well forget about in SLC. The city herself is very cosmopolitan, with a lot of restaurants and very green and lush on the inside. Great weather (4 seasons with a mild, short winter). High paying jobs coupled with low cost of living. People are fit here (not like SLC though). Traffic can be bad, but then your job will pay for the gas and the time
