Vote for the best southwestern city to live in without much money.

So assuming you aren't someone who can afford a fancy house in the suburbs, or to buy any house at all for that matter.

And that also you don't care about living in the best place to raise a family, so you don't care about schools at all.

But you don't want to live in some high crime place with a lot of robbery and gang violence

which is the best city ...

( I know that L.A. and Las Vegas are out ! )

El Paso

Yes I'm serious, it actually has a very low crime rate (if you can learn to overlook Juarez), it's ranked among the safest cities in the US, look it up. Very low cost of living, all the ammenities you could need from a medium sized metro, very friendly people, and definitely a good place for frugal shopping if that's your thing.

The Phoenix area is very affordable. You can live in Phoenix and hang out in Scottsdale. Pro sports teams. Even though you don't have kids, Phoenix has some great suburbs that attract singles and families. The crime really isn't that bad. You're also surrounded by mountains/natural preserves if your outdoorsy. You're only a couple hours away from snow/skiing in the winter. LA&Vegas are only 6 hours away if you ever want to hang out in those cities. The only thing that sucks about Phoenix are the long hot summers. May-Sep 100+ temps dominate. Luckily there's AC and pools everywhere so you really don't know it's that hot unless you spend long periods of time outdoors. Good luck to you.

Counsidering I wasn't rich and wouldn't be able to afford a Scottsdale home, id choose Albuquerque. Affordable, don't need much money living there

Interesting topic for sure, but I have to interject that (with the exception of El Paso), that the other cities in Texas (and Oklahoma) are just not comparable with those in New Mexico and Arizona, etc. They are just two different "Southwests"...from an historical, cultural, geographic and climatic aspect. The former are "western South", while the latter are "southern West".

Just saying!
