Yeah, I'm in Michigan all the time, including suburbs of Detroit, Ann Arbor and smaller cities in southern Michigan.
Michigan is VERY safe and has a very small murder rate, Detroit and Flint (city limits) are where a large majority of the violent crime are centralized. Those two cities have......8.7% of the state's population and 68% of the murders.
A vast majority of Michigan is beautiful, stable and full of really great people. It's sad all people see are the honestly small pockets of violence in a few select areas. It's just the nature of the areas that make them the mainstream stories. Of course any violent crime is terrible. I'm certainly not saying the 770,000 people in the city of Detroit don't count, just making a point that the other 9,200,000 in Michigan count as well.
