Honor Roll
U.S. News put 5,462 medical centers through progressively finer screens to create the 16 specialties rankings in the 2007 edition of America's Best Hospitals. Just 173 hospitals made it into the rankings, and of those, a mere 18 displayed the marked breadth of expertise, with high scores in at least six specialties, that qualified them for the Honor Roll. They are ordered by total points—a hospital got 2 points if it ranked at or close to the top in a specialties and 1 point if it ranked slightly lower

1 Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore

3 UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles
4 Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland
5 Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston
6 New York-Presbyterian Univ. Hosp. of Columbia & Cornell, New York
7-tied Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC
7-tied UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco

As expected, Cleveland and St. Louis and Rochester still have the best healthcare available in the Midwest. I was a bit surprised that Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston didn't make the list. Durham is the only Southern city on that list. The rest are either Midwestern, Northeastern, or east coast.

I think my point went over everyone's head.

There is NO best hospital. There are BEST Hospitals for certain procedures.

I gave birth at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital because it is known to be one of the top 10 birthing centers in the country. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the top 10 in the country.

yes, this is true. Sloan Kettering and MD Anderson are the tops in cancer treatment, but aren't on this list.

I wasn't surprised. This list obviously does not rank considering first class health care. I'm interested in the criteria they used.
