5. North Carolina
6. Illinois
7. New Jersey
8. West Virginia

Top 10 more or less in order:

Tennessee (I'm a homer)
North Carolina
South Carolina
West Virginia

Most states make the list because they have particular cities or sections that I really really like. Not that I would want to be plunked down anywhere in the state. The only state where I'd accept a vacation rental - location unspecified - would be Maryland and perhaps PA or WV.

I'm only ranking the states I've been to or lived in. I don't want to give a state I haven't been to a bad rep when I could be completely incorrect.

Also, just because a state is ranked low doesn't mean I dislike it, just that I like the ones above it better... The dislikes start after Arkansas.

1) California (from amazing scenery to amazing cities... California truley has it all)
2) New York (same as California. NYC is obviously a great city but don't underestimate cities like Buffalo, Syracuse, ect. Upstate New York is my favorite part of the entire country)
3) Hawaii (beautiful and fun, there's always something different to do each time you visit. Nice to visit during the winter, but I dunno how I'd like living there with the lack of a diverse climate)
4) Montana (another VERY scenic state)
5) Massachusetts (lots of history and Boston is an amazing city)
6) Washington (Seattle is an amazing city)
7) New Mexico (the mountainous parts at least, that's where I've spent most of my time there)
8) Florida (great for a vacation, nice beaches but too hot and humid for my taste)
9) Illinois (I can only vouch for Chicago, but it's another great city that you need to visit sometime)
10) Tennessee (beautiful mountains in Eastern Tennessee)
11) North Carolina (beautiful mountains in Western North Carolina. Asheville is a pretty cool mid-sized city)
12) Nevada (Lose some money, but have fun in the process )
13) Missouri (another scenic state with two great cities to visit)
14) New Jersey (underrated)
15) Arizona (way too hot, but some damn good Mexican food and the desert is oddly captivating)
16) Arkansas (nice topography)
17) Louisiana (too hot, too humid and too rednecky)
18) Texas (WAY too hot, too conservative and getting to be too crowded in the cities)
19) Oklahoma (nothing to see here, move along)

From favorite to least:

New Hampshire
North Dakota
South Dakota
West Virginia
New Mexico
North Carolina
South Carolina
Rhode Island
New York
New Jersey

Past the top 10 it gets murky until the last 10. Those are definitely the last places you'd see me live in. I'd probably just try another country at that point.
