We're looking to move/buy a house in a hippie/artsy area that is small town or a suburb. We have a few qualifications and preferences. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Require
*2-3 bedroom houses under $200,000
*Within 1 hour drive of major US airport
*Creative, artistic people

Prefer
*Liberal, left-leaning politics
*Ocean or Mountains within a couple hours drive
*Green-thinking area

Thank you for any/all suggestions!

I love New Hope! Been there a couple of times... and the little town of Frenchtown, NJ nearby. I don't think we'd find anything in that price range in that area, but thanks. I guess I forgot to mention that we're from the North East, and prefer to buy elsewhere in the US. So from DC -South and West! =D

I'll check out the Highlands in Louisville, thanks for the recommendation!

I will be commuting to work... hence the need for a major airport within an hour. =D

My Wife and I travel regularly.
She calls me when her plane is taxi'ing in, then I leave the house to meet her.
5 minutes to the airport. Please check out Louisville/Bardstown Road/Cherokee Park section of the Highlands.
Given the original post, you wont be disappointed

Bisbee AZ. Only problem is the airport. Probably just over an hour to get to the Tucson AP. Whole town is very hippie and laid back.

Quick check says the drive is more like an hour and a half. So it may not work.

Asheville, NC is what you are looking for. Less than two hours from Knoxville which has a decent sized airport. It's in the heart of the Appalachian mountains and is very young, liberal, and green.

Asheville is much closer to Greenville-Spartanburg International; it's half the distance. Busier than Knoxville's airport too, especially since landing Southwest.
