I think it's cute how Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois "fight" over its connections with Lincoln. But I think Illinois wins.

Besides Lincoln...I can't think of anyone. Bobby Knight? Michael Jackson? D.C. Stephenson?

In the Louisville area we can't go anywhere without hearing the name Clark, as in George Rogers Clark who founded the first settlement here. This Clark had a more famous brother who explored the American West with Merriwether Lewis.

IL: I guess we also have Obama and Reagan, but Lincoln was definitely more important.

Each U.S. State (large or small) is allowed just 2 statues of native sons, inside the U.S. Capitol. These are the 100 honorees:

National Statuary Hall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

California recently replaced Governor King's statue, with Ronald Reagan.

Florida interestingly chose Dr. John Gorrie of Appalachicola, the 19th century inventor of air conditioning.

Some people want to replace Maryland's statesman John Hanson, with Harriet Tubman (slave rescuer).
