Conde Nast 2007: World's Favorite Cities for International Tourism
Sydney has been ranked the world's top city in an international tourist poll by a top US travel magazine. The Australian tourist mecca scored the highest points when rated by readers of US-based Conde Nast Traveler in the magazine's annual readers choice awards. The awards, which began in 1988, are awarded after questionnaires are sent to the magazine's 387,000 subscribers, who rank top cities, islands, resorts and airlines. Sydney scored the highest mark this year, on 87.7, beating Florence (86.8), San Francisco (85.9) and Bangkok (85.8), with readers commenting on the city's "ambience and friendliness". Also scoring mentions in the regional lists were US city Santa Fe (84.1), and Venice and New York (both 82.9). Rankings of top cities according to the Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards: Sydney 87.7 Florence 86.8 San Francisco 85.9 Bangkok 85.8 Rome 85.0 Santa Fe 84.1 New York City 82.9 Venice 82.9 Cape Town 82.8 Chicago 82.2 Vancouver 82.2 Charleston, S.C. 81.8 Paris 80.8 Hong Kong 80.4 Buenos Aires 80.0 Chiang Mai, Thailand 79.9 San Miguel de Allende 79.8 Victoria, B.C. 79.8 Barcelona 79.7 Carmel 79.6 Siena 79.6 Quebec City 79.3 Singapore 78.8 Honolulu 78.4 Aspen 78.3 Bruges 78.3 London 78.3 Vienna 78.1 Seattle 78.0 Kyoto 77.7 Sedona 77.7 Shanghai 76.5 Melbourne 76.3 Oaxaca, Mexico 76.3 Cuzco, Peru 75.7 Marrakech 75.6 Montreal 74.6 Queenstown, N.Z. 74.6 Jerusalem 74.2 Jaipur, India 74.1 Christchurch, N.Z. 72.5 Beirut 71.1 Wellington, N.Z. 70.8 Tokyo 70.5 Toronto 70.3 Dubai 69.9 Hanoi 69.8 Rio de Janeiro 69.4 Beijing 67.3 Sydney ranked top city in tourist poll - News - Travel - smh.com.au |

Santa Fe is the oldest city in the USA and steeped in Spanish and Native American history. Not to mention its beautiful (next to the Sangre de Cristo mountains) naturally and architecturally. If I were a foreign traveler, Santa Fe would be right up there with NYC, etc. ![]() |

This is a very strange list to me. I too am surprised to see Santa Fe, a nice city no doubt, as ranked #6 in the world, above such places as Paris, Venice and Rio de Janeiro. The placement of a lot of the international cities surprises me too. Florence at #2? Berlin not even on the list? I suppose it's all subjective, but Conde Nast is an American-based magazine so I'm curious as to whether or not their polling was heavily skewed towards American travelers (hence the high rankings of Santa Fe and others)?

Sedona 77.7
YUCK! I have to disagree that Sedona should even be on this list!! I'd agree with Detroit being on the list before i would Sedona!! |
