What an ignorant statement. You're the reason why some northerners are not liked. You are the type of person who moves to a place and makes fun of everything and wonders why people don't like you. Then if we defend ourselves, we are told we are still living the Civil War and don't like northerners. It seems like it's the other way around.

Luckily most of the transplants in my part of Alabama are nice and respectful.

Out west we just all hate Californians. I hear the same complaints here in Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Colorado only directed at Californians. Nobody cares about Northerners or Southerners.

Hehe. Yes, in Arizona I heard it a lot. Those Californians.

Where I live now, no one refers to me as a "Northerner" or "damn Yankee," and that's just how I like it. In fact, I've yet to hear someone from out West use the term "Northerner" or "Yankee." Those words are definitely not part of the Western U.S. vernacular.

As an aside, I'm far from ignorant. In fact, I'm quite intelligent. I just tell it like it is. If you don't like that, tough.

Lol, only Southerners use terms like damn Yankees, or Yankees. You never hear people up hear call Southerners out with terms like "Reb", etc. The Civil War rarely crosses the mind of anyone up here, unless of course it is brought up by Southerners. And of course when in their company I find they love to bring it up, or the whole difference in culture thing. They are always blabbing about how proud of the South they are, etc. I assume it is the whole wounded pride thing about losing the Civil War. However, they love to frame it North vs South in a war between states. It was not. It was a war between a rebellion and the legitimately elected Fed Govt. The Fed Govt put down the rebellion, and they haven't forgotten it since. Funny how much they love the USA today, and hated it only 150 years ago.

Southerners don't talk about the Civil War all the time. Northerners, please come to Charlotte or Atlanta and see how many people mention the Civil War or how they don't like you because you're from New York.

dude, get over yourself.
You live in the south--- and u want a more southern feeling town? Um, NEWSFLASH: America is a diverse place and everyone is free to move about the country as they please. There will be northerners and non-southern types in all cities of the south, just as there are southerners in NYC, Boston and Philly.

Get over it.

Us northerners tolerate the southern accent up here despite it soundling like nails on a chalk board to us. So I think u need to tolerate people for who they are not just wanna run or move away cuz it annoys u or bothers u.
See, this is what southern ppl are like--- they dont like outsiders, they dont wanna be around them...very very narrow minded culture perpetuated by the OP who is southern....and Paula Deen....and everything else "southern" like fatty foods and unhealthy eating habits.

OP, move to the woods with Honey boo boo and you'll be happy then.

Mississippi Gulf Coast is kind of an interesting melting pot of cultures from Mississippi, New Orleans, coastal/seafood/shipbuilding, casinos/tourism, and several military bases which draw people from all over the country.

That classic southern feel can be found in adorable Bay St. Louis (think oyster bars overlooking the bay), Ocean Springs (artsy with streets lined with live oaks arching over and their own little beachfront), and Pass Christian (southern mansions overlooking the gulf).

Everyone talks about Oxford being nice and southern, but some other nice towns that definitely are still southern include Tupelo, Hattiesburg, Columbus, Starkville, Corinth, Brookhaven, McComb, Laurel, Hernando, Brandon, and Madison. And for the Delta and Mississippi River experience, you can do southern all the way in Natchez, Vicksburg, Greenwood, and Cleveland.

To answer your question your best bet will be by far Mississippi, and a close second Alabama.

Get over it.

Rep to you!

Could not have said it better myself.

The civil war was a 153 years ago.

The North won.

Get over it.

Your father and grandfathers USA is HISTORY. The USA is a melting pot today...there are no more "southerners", Yankees, white, black, ...etc....learn to live with it.
