Obviously some of these places are now defunct or merged with others elsewhere, but they're nonetheless important!

Companies Born in St. Louis:

-Anheuser Busch (1852)
-Magic Chef (1881)
-Stix Baer & Fuller (1882)
-A.G. Edwards (1887)
-St. Louis Car Company (1887)
-Ralston Purina (1894)
-Monsanto (1901)
-Ralcorp (1902)
-Famous Barr Department Stores (1911)
-Vess Soda (1916)
-7Up (1929)
-Famous Footwear (1960)
-McDonnell Douglas (1967)
-Express Scripts (1986)
-Build A Bear Workshops (1997)

That's all I can come up with right now, but there are probably more that I'm missing

Puh-lease.

And that's where I'm gonna end it since I hate the Economics and the Political forums.

Most of these companies were not founded in Minneapolis. They may call it home but this thread is about companies that started in your city. 3M was Two Harbors and Northwest was Detroit, MI for instance.

Sorry you disagree.....I really don't care and I don't know why you do either. Why don't you go attack the guy who made the comment about Starbucks?

I'm nearly certain Northwest Airlines was not originated out of Detroit.....where did you get that from?

But yeah, I did the state (and I'm fairly certain ALL of them originated within the state or metro). I thought we were doing metros at first and then I added a couple of companies from the state while I was at it (Hormel, Mayo Clinic).

*Edit: I just remembered that Buffalo Wild Wings ORIGINATED in Columbus, OH but became a company in the Twin Cities. So that one was also probably wrong.

Dairy Queen originated in Joliet, Illinois, I *think* Northwest was based out of Detroit, Michigan originally, and US bank came from so many bank acquisitions, it's hard to say where exactly it was born. Also, I don't think TGI Friday's originated from or is headquartered in MN...?
