About 80,000 would be a decent number but if the last five years were close to as good as the previous five then the number could be over 100,000.

If anyone is interested, the business journal article on it said the major sectors fire new jobs had been in health care and services. Those two have been booming so I can easily see the number closer to 100,000.

I can see both Houston and DC passing Miami by 2007.
Source? LOL

Then it's not really neck-and-neck. Quantity does play a role here.

I really hate the term African American. I'm a black american, I have nothing to do with Africa.

It's just a reference to descent. Otherwise, Asian Indians and Aborigines who live in the U.S. could also qualify as "Black Americans" since melanin content seems to be the only qualifier.

I also dislike the term African American but it goes deeper than that. I also dislike calling us Black but I won't get into it on this forum.

I wonder if you're getting at the fact that slavery essentially dissolved our unique tribal/national identities and replaced them with a general/generic "African" identity. Is that part of it?

True, but one could say the same for smaller cities (e.g., Charlotte, Raleigh, Nashville, Orlando, etc.). Obviously Houston has more venues than those cities, but the sheer number of venues Atlanta offers across most categories when it comes to Black nightlife can't be casually brushed aside in an attempt to demonstrate that Houston is on par with Atlanta across the board here. And again, this doesn't mean that Houston is deficient in this category, but only that Atlanta really and truly does excel here.
