Correct. You (or somebody else ganging up on me) had said it only goes one way. Futile to expect a desired benefit, but effective enough to cause harm.
I think casting one presidential vote out of 80,000,000 is a childish way to express a political view. Luckily, it is not the only way available to us. We can also deny a state some tax revenue with which to carry out its nefarious machinations. That must have some measurable effect, because if I illegally avoid paying it, somebody will go a great deal of trouble to chase me down in order to prosecute me and force me to pay it. Clearly not trivial at all. Hit them where it hurts.
I can understand why you'd want to do something about politics you disagree with in Arizona, I disagree with SB 1070. I just don't think the boycott hit the people it was supposed to hit where it hurts. To a great extant, it hit people here illegally from Mexico hard and had little effect on American citizens who voted in favor of SB 1070, Arpaio, Pearce, or anyone else who pushed the hardline immigration agenda. A few angry calls for a boycott with little forethought about how it would play out wasn't the best idea.
Instead of boycotting travel to AZ, people could've came and helped protest at the capitol building or the sheriff's office. Money could've been raised to run counterargument ads in the media, and to fund a drive to register more latino voters. Putting the squeeze on a bunch of AZ hotels and restaurants just put a lot of Mexican nationals out of work and sent them packing to other states, which is what the architects of the immigration law wanted in the first place.
I plan to boycott Texas for 3 years and 36 weeks. The time the Army forced me to live there. Not that I hate Texas, I don't. I'm just a little Texas'd out
You have to consider that a significant majority of Americans who have the leisure and/or resources to travel to Arizona recreationally (affluent and/or retired) are of a political persuasion that they would approve overall of the Arizona position. If these people chose to go to Arizona with comparable motivations, they would be expected to outnumber the boycotters.

I'm just trying to figure out exactly what it is you would be trying to boycott in AZ and your reasoning.

One look at the Grand Canyon, hike in Sedona, the saguaro cacti, or a colorful desert sunset and every petty thing you described in your posts woulkd melt away and would be furthest thing from my mind. I don't support SB 1070, however I visit Arizona because it's an exceptionally beautiful state with great weather to boot. That's good enough for me and I'm sure many visiting the state with different political persuasions would agree.
