You know how sometimes you look at a map and you notice that two states or countries who seem very distant from each other actually share a border? I thought of a few examples

The Oklahoma Panhandle borders Colorado
Tennessee borders Missouri
Nebraska borders Wyoming
North Korea borders Russia
China borders India

Don't know about the NY and CT part...but I have heard people from LI/Downstate who seem a little taken aback when I mention the only state that my region of NY is near is Pennsylvania. Down there the mental image of PA is not of a border state but as a state that is separated from NY by NJ. PA actually has the largest land border with NY of any state. 2nd largest land border...with Vermont.

All states that do not touch the coasts usually feel all mushed together to me.

I'd say NY's most forgotten border is the short one with Western Mass. Several commuters cross the NY/CT daily.

Tennessee and Virginia

I also tend to forget about South Florida's extreme proximity to the Caribbean, and that Montreal and Toronto are right outside the state of New York.
