I live in Tn and have travelled the country installing conveyor systems. Usually staying ant one location 1 to 3 months at a time. The best town Ive ever stayed in was maumelle AR, I stayed there 6 months and loved it. Great area for families and a decent night life. Its also close to a lake. You will need to be near water since you always have been. Nothing will replace those twice yearly beach trips.

As a retired law enforcement officer of 41 years in the Los Angeles area, I highly concur with JMT about Cookeville. I retired to Cookeville after 60 years in So. Cal. I can highly recommend the area and schools. There is a college campus in town which brings us a symphony orchestra. There is about 33,000 people in the city, but we are only about an hour away from Nashville for the airport, malls, and nightlife. It has restaurants by the bushel and all the beauty and outdoor life that Tennessee offers. We have parks with waterfalls within 1/2 hour, two lakes within 45 minutes, and the weather you described. We get snow (about 6-7 inches PER YEAR.) It will snow, look pretty, and be gone the next day. Summers can get hot and humid, but the bad part only lasts about a month. Spring and Fall are absolutely gorgeous. Enough said
