I'm moving to Los Angeles in a few weeks. Yay, go me.

Anyways I'm just curious, if you live somewhere that really offers multiple destinations in all directions, how often do you do that? How often do you take those weekend trips?

In a way it is pretty cool living in a town that is a tourist destination. Plenty of stuff to do, lots of free entertainment.

On the other hand, we are visited by a fair amount of clueless "tools" and douchebags on weekends.

And no doubt avoided by many who wish to avoid the "warm welcoming natives"...

I live somewhere that has countless things to see within an hour or two, and my wife and I find ourselves going out of town sight seeing at least a couple times per month (more frequent in good weather, maybe not quite as often in the bad winter weather months). We've been here 3 years so far, maybe that will slow down more as more time passes, though.

Not as much as I wish I could, but when I can, there are some cool places to visit within an hour or two. Even more if you go up to 4 hours or so.

From Charlottesville Virginia I make a road trip about once a month. Some common destinations:

Washington, DC two or three times a year
Richmond about three times a year
Shenandoah National Park two or three times a year
Outer Banks once or twice a year
Skiing at either Snowshoe or Wintergreen about once a year

Most people in this forum think their "great location" is the city they live in.

Being bird-watchers, we were out in the countryside just about every week. In spring almost every day.

Gaithersburg, MD here.

DC - very often. Can range from once a week to once a month.
Philly - about once every two months.
New York City - once a year.

That's pretty much it.
