Wow, have you ever been there?? I used to live in the midwest and I can tell you everything you said is way offbase. There is four seasons weather there, and many people there LOVE that. Camping swimming fishing in the summer, skiiing and snowmobiling in the winter. The people are not close minded, they are amoung the most highly educated in the nation, but some do tend to be socially conservative and more of the family values types. Im assuming that is what you do not like when you call them "closed minded. Corn??? well yea along with soybeans, wheat and dairy farms. I bet you Californians like to eat dont you??? Nothing to do????? Hunting, fishing, going to lake Michigan, trips to Chicago, boating. Ive been to your California and I would not live there for all the tea in China. Traffic, smog, crowds, strange counter culture types, liberal values, high taxes, high COL, earthquakes, landslides, fires, need I go on??? What is so special about California that the folks out there really think these things about the midwest. Its not just the midwest either, west coast folks are always judging the south and even the east coast. California is not anything special, not sure how you justify running down other parts of the nation when you look at all the issues right in your backyard. Enjoy your smog and earthquakes

Your ignorance is breathtakingly "closed-minded."

Let certain coastal types remain ignorant. It keeps out the riffraff.

I think the term "Midwest" conjures up a wholesome, small town, conservative stereotype. The fact is, there is a huge dichotomy between rural and urban Midwest. After all, St. Louis was one of the largest cities in the country when San Francisco was a remote village and LA didn't even exist. We certainly have the built environment to prove it. Respect your elders, coastal snobs!

The midwest is a nice place to visit, it can be beautiful with fall colors. Many parts are probably good for raising a family as well if one can support said family. Overall it's not the kind of place I'd want to live. I already have and the winters stink horribly. Some people like them though I'm sure.

It's interesting to me how often "corn" comes up as an answer. I suppose it's true (outside of the cities), but since I live in the cities I never see corn. What is planted out in California and agricultural Pennsylvania -- a "cool" crop? nightclubs? It's not all mountains and cities!

I loved it! Especially this line:

"'The Midwestern Aborigines are ruddy, generally heavy-set folk, clad in plain, non-designer costumery," Eldred said. "They tend to live in simple, one-story dwellings whose interiors are decorated with Hummels and 'Bless This House' needlepoint wall-hangings. And though coarse and unattractive, these simple people were rather friendly, offering us quaint native fare such as 'hotdish' and 'casserole.'"

Things to do in Los Angeles (the place i live)

-Shopping
-Great places to see
- Different cultures
-All kind of food
-All kind of people from all over the world
-Non-religious freaks
-Liberal

You say you guys go fishing, hunting, going to the lake, etc to have fun. For us, those activities arent real activities, those are things redneck do
I would hate to live in a city where everyone is white and look all the same.

Youre comparing an entire region to a city.

If youre doing city comparisons, then compare Chicago to it. Then your argument goes to complete ****.

If youre doing region comparisons, there are rednecks and whites up and down and all over rural California, Arizona, Nevada, etc.
