Austin. It went from sleepy college town to one of the most desirable places to live in the entire country. Portland is similar.

I'm going to be bias and say Jersey City. The place didn't even have a skyline 15 years ago, it was an industrial wasteland, it was more like Newark without the job market. Looking at it now, it's a gem mending modern and historic qualities to a degree you don't find anywhere else in the NE.

Oklahoma City. It went from a dying and undesirable city in the 80s and 90s to one that is now rebuilding itself and creating a new identity, and is continuing that process through today.

True. Most people don't realize how much Oklahoma City has improved and that the stereotype becomes more and more outdated each year. It still has a long way to go in my opinion but its a much, much better place than it was in the 1980s and 1990s. Back then it could probably be viably considered the Detroit of the South.

People mentioning Boston, Philadelphia Oklahoma city, New York etc. true, they are now cities with strong Economies and population growth but they never collapsed like Pittsburgh, St Louis or Cleveland.

I would say Pittsburgh had the most remarkable recovery, it is now one of the richer metros and it has a high quality of life. As late as the early 2000s people left Pittsburgh for dead.

The Detroit Trailer Park of the Dusty Plains. Still is. Be careful where you park your NBA team or it might get jacked.
