Hey, i'm wondering what any of you would consider some of the better places to be homeless in america? Maybe thinking of things like assistance, weather, treatment by locals, dealings with law enforcement etc.
The warmer parts eliminate some of the risk from the elements. Does not eliminate the issues of health, Hygiene and safety from other humans, Both homeless and not.
Bottom line: Shelter, regular meals and access to healthcare are needed to survive. No one should be without.
Some place warm, so any of the Southern border states. Cheap would be better, so that leaves out Hawaii and California. Plus there is no help available in Hawaii for transients.
Everybody heads to Florida, so they are overrun with homeless. One of the other Southern states would be better. less competition.
There are so many homeless in New York City that I suspect that might be a good place to be homeless. It sure is cold in the winter, though.
Actually, if you are planning on being homeless, I suggest far south Mexico. Every body is poor so you won;t stand out, weather is nice and warm. Settle near an expensive tourist resort and you can beg from the tourists.
San Francisco. Combination of stable weather that's never too cold or hot and an egregiously generous state and city to the point that the SF Planning Department keeps the Tenderloin zoned to prevent development.
I agree you shouldn't have to be homeless, but some people choose to. I remember my friend telling me about running into a "homeless" guy living on Kuaui in Hawaii on the beach catching his own stuff and what not. Does that mean he's a survivalist? Anyway, I can't imagine how amazing that might be like "Yeah, I'm homeless and I live on one of the most beautiful islands in the world on a beach not that overrun by tourists.."
Homelessness is en route to being kind of a possibility for every person who is either poor or middle class. I myself have wondered this question in case in the future I have to wander around in the streets. Jobs are ridiculously hard to land and it will not become any easier soon and the economy is deteriorating to the point of damnation.
