There's definitely no shortage of women in San Francisco. The overall sex ratio might be more male than female, but many of those men are gay, so any reasonably attractive straight man with his act together can take his pick.

Wouldn't a large percentage of those women be lesbian though?

Austin, TX. The women are absolutely beautiful over there, and it doesn't get as bad in the winter compared to other cities in US.

San Diego does not have a young population, at least not that young (relative to the OP's age). Here are some characteristics:

Source: County of San Diego: Aging and Independence Services

Recent studies by SANDAG indicate that the total population of the San Diego region grew from 2,813,833 to 3,224,432 from 2000 to 2010, an increase of over 15 percent. These studies estimate that during this time:

-those aged 60 and over increased in number from 404,025 to 531,980;
-those aged 65 and over increased from 313,750 to 378,604;
-while those aged 75 and over increased from 153,691 to 191,037.

The median age for San Diego County is increasing and is expected to continue to rise as the baby boomers age:

-in 1980, the median age for the San Diego region was 28.8 years;
-in 1990, the median age was 30.9 years;
-in 2000, the median age was 33.2;
-the median age in 2010 was 35.3;
-and, by 2030 it is projected to be 37.4 years.

As those in the baby boom generation age, the senior population continues to grow at a faster pace than the total population in the county. Between 2000 and 2030 it is projected that:

-the 60+ population will increase from 404,025 to 929,766; a 130 percent increase;
-the 65+ population will increase from 313,750 to 722,545; a 130 percent increase;
-the 75+ population will increase from 153,691 to 324,855; a 111 percent increase;
-the general population will increase from 2,813,833 to 3,870,000; a 38 percent increase.

If you visit the beach towns in Ca. in the summer, I'm sure you will be swayed. Huntington Beach/Newport is worth a look, as well.
Good luck wherever you land!
Yep. San Diego is not exactly the place for single men
Huntington Beach attracts a lot of young party types looking for Musicians, Artists, Surfers, Extreme Athletes
Newport Beach attracts young party types looking for financiers, real estate brokers and husband material

I lived in Austin for six years and had no luck with women. I think the women there seemed too hard to get.

Seattle, Portland, Austin, Boston or San Francisco are by far your best choices.

San Francisco is a hotbed for gay men but not as much for lesbians. I've heard lesbians complain about it because the supposed largest LGBT mecca on the planet is so male dominated there isn't as much for them.

The following 4 criteria are the most important things to me:

1) Young population
2) Good weather
3) Walkability
4) Active community

Based on those things and you experiences/knowledge, if you were a 23 year old single, straight male in my shoes what places/cities would you give the hardest looks to?
I would help if you told us where you live now.

Are you going to have lots of money? Then Honolulu.

Don't try it without a very generous income; it is a very expensive place to live.

Most men, when they want lots of women, are talking about hoping to be able to take advantage of lots of different women, and Honolulu has the tourist ladies 365 days a year, hoping for a summer romance. Which actually leaves the local ladies, who want a relationship, also available, because many of the local men are romancing the tourists where they don't have to make any commitment. So, you could win, no matter which way you are looking for female companionship.
